Swimming Pools in the Lake District
Penrith Leisure Centre – has 2 pools: a 25 metre swimming pool for confident swimmers and a children’s pool. Penrith also has a 120 sq m climbing wall and they hold a 1 day gymnastics camp for those budding gymnasts.
Appleby (Appleby-in-Westmoreland) – only one pool but has organised sessions for families and learner swimmers.
Carlisle – Trinity Leisure centre has an unusual L-shaped pool which is suitable for families.
Sands Leisure centre (Carlisle) has 2 pools which cater for all abilities and regularly hold Family Fun Swim sessions.
Dalton Leisure Centre (Dalton-in-Furness) – family fun, especially for toddlers with a warm, 20 m pool including a paddling pool and Jacko The Frog fun slide.
Ulverston Leisure Centre – combines a 25 metre pool with a large tennis centre with plenty of junior activities planned for the school holidays.
Greystoke Outdoor Pool – heated outdoor pool, cafe and children’s play area. Check their Facebook page for the latest opening times and how to book.
Askham Outdoor Pool – open during the warmer weather – check their Facebook Page for current opening times. 2 heated pools, a paddling pool for toddlers and a 20 metre one for older kids and adults. There are showers, toilets, green space for picnics and on-site kiosk serving hot beverages, snacks and ice cream.
Kendal Leisure Centre – a 6 lane pool is open all year and a smaller, learner pool is only open seasonally
Lazonby Outdoor Pool (and campsite) – a small pool on the banks of the River Eden, which has just been renovated. Numbers are limited and it is recommended you book a slot during hot weather.
Riverside Hotel, Kendall – children are allowed in the pool, supervised by adults, and there is also a shallow pool for paddling.
